Refreshing Panakam Recipe for Ram Navami & Summer Detox | Jaggery Drink with Tulsi & Spices

What is Panakam?

Panakam is a traditional South Indian drink made from jaggery, water, and warming spices. Prepared especially on Ram Navami, it is offered as prasad to Lord Ram. The sweet, spicy, and tangy blend makes it not only divine but also a perfect natural summer cooler.

Ingredients

8 Green Cardamom pods

¼ tsp Black Peppercorns

1 cup Jaggery (chopped)

6 cups Water

A very small pinch of Edible Camphor (optional)

Juice of 1 Large Lemon

1 tsp Dry Ginger Powder

Few leaves of Holy Basil (Tulsi)

Note:

Please do not use regular camphor or Bhimseni camphor. Only use edible camphor if available. You can skip it if not.

How to Make Panakam

Step 1: Prepare the Base

Lightly crush cardamom and black pepper using a mortar & pestle. In a large mixing bowl, combine: Crushed spices Chopped jaggery Water Stir well and let it sit for 10–15 minutes to allow jaggery to melt and spices to infuse.

Step 2: Strain & Add Final Flavors

Strain the mixture using a fine sieve. Add: Lemon juice Ginger powder A pinch of edible camphor (if using) Tulsi leaves Mix well.

Serving Tips

Serve chilled for maximum refreshment. Store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Garnish with a fresh tulsi leaf before serving.
